I AM a parent of a child at Lyndale School and I have always voted Labour.

But I have to say that this past year has destroyed my faith in what I always considered to be the party which protected the most vulnerable in our society.

This is because I'm sorry to say that Labour in Wirral is entirely responsible for the closure of Lyndale School, the displacement of the very sick children within it, and the disgraceful treatment of dedicated staff who care for those children.

I entered the consultation process to close the school with the optimistic view that as soon as we had explained the difficulties faced by the children there, the council would show some compassion and realise their mistake.

But I was shocked.

The council spent a fortune of your money on a sham consultation in which almost every respondent strongly expressed that the school should be kept open and the children protected.

We collected 10,000-plus signatures in our favour, and Wirral Labour ignored the lot.

I have attended every meeting of the cabinet and on every occasion, without fail, every Labour councillor has voted against saving Lyndale School.

Because Labour are in the majority and were told by leadership which way to vote, we didn’t stand a chance.

I would ask the people of Wirral to tell the Labour Party representatives who knock on their door asking for votes that they will not consider it until the decision on Lyndale is changed.
