I AM writing about councillor Phil Davies' recent comments about the Lyndale school situation being chaos and stating that the report to cabinet contained a detailed account of the consultation and the SEN improvement test.

He also says: "I do want to acknowledge that this has been a difficult and uncertain time for families with children at the Lyndale school and their staff but every effort will be made to ensure that there are good plans in place for each and every child to secure alternative school provision with strong plans for transition in place well before it closes."

I think the very least everyone connected with the Lyndale school deserves is a full public apology for the way that Wirral Council have conducted themselves since the day in December 2013 when Julia Hassall ill-advisedly declared she was "minded to close the school" and that the difficulty and uncertainty for parents and staff has been made far worse by the council’s actions.

I would challenge Wirral Council to name one parent at the school who feels that the local authority has ensured their proposals take account of parental preferences for particular styles of provision or educational settings - and if they cannot, then they should admit they have failed in this duty.

This has been council v school from day one with no attempt to hide it, and parents have been treated with utter contempt.

The parents, children, staff and residents of Wirral deserved far better.
