I WAS shocked to read Merseytravel is scrapping subsidies for the night bus service from Liverpool to Wirral because it says it's not financially viable.

This will mean anyone from Wirral working in or visiting Liverpool will only be able to take taxis back home in the early hours.

Anyone who has ever done this knows how exorbitant the cost can be.

Why can't Merseytravel use the "surplus" money from Wirral toll collections to subsidise this cheap but vital service that among other things helps our children to get home safely after a night out?

Or is Wirral just a cash cow for a transport authority that should really be branded Liverpooltravel?

We’ve been here before over a decade go with the tram money, haven't we? £80 million "surplus" on a failed tram system squandered from money largely raised from Wirral drivers who have no choice but to use the tunnels.

It's about time Wirral was properly represented in what are lucrative positions on these publicly funded bodies as, presently, our voices are not being heard.

At election time, politicians from all parties should realise it's not actually all about them, but the voters, stupid.
