OWEN Owen opened its first store in Birkenhead in October 1959.
By 1965 this small supermarket had become TJ Hughes and maintained its position in the middle of grange road shopping for many years before moving to its current location in Grange precinct in the late 70s.
TJ Hughes remained part of the Owen Owen group until 1991.
The Owen Owen Trust supports former employees of the group with grants and help with things like household repairs, redecoration and renewal of essential items.
The trust wants to reach as many former members of staff in need as possible. Considering the group had a presence in Birkenhead for 32 years, there are relatively few Birkenhead beneficiaries. Can you help us to find more?
The trust wants to hear from former members of staff who worked in Birkenhead between 1959 and 1991. A reunion is to be held in Beatties cafe on Thursday, June 25.
