I ENTIRELY agree with Alan Keating regarding reintroducing the dog licence.

In Switzerland, a dog licence costs the equivalent of £55 per year for the first dog and £110 for each additional dog which is reasonable.

Hopefully it guarantees only responsible dog owners own dogs – ie, those who are prepared to properly clean up after their pooches when out in the community as well as at home.

If we really want to boost Wirral's tourist industry with more day and longer stay visitors to our lovely peninsula, surely the best way to do it is to create a pollution-free environment of super-cleanliness and hygiene as Switzerland has done so successfully.

Also, dog-owners should curb their pets barking as non-dog-owners crave peace and quiet in their homes and apartments after a day on the treadmill and do not want to be subjected to intermittent and in some cases excessive barking, which is extremely unwelcome noise pollution of the air.

This is unfair on all sections of the community but particularly so on the ill and infirm, the elderly, parents trying to get children to sleep and anyone at all trying to study.

I like dogs, but only when they are under the proper control of their owners who ensure their animals do not encroach on the freedom and privacy of others.
