ON the face of it, David Cameron plans to scrap Labour's Human Rights Act appears to be good news, although it would depend on the Conservatives winning the general election.

However, the reality is that suggestions that Britain could leave the European Convention on Human Rights and introduce a new British Bill of Rights giving the ultimate power to UK judges, while remaining a member of the EU, is pure fantasy.

It is impossible to withdraw from the ECHR without first withdrawing from the EU.

As with Harold Wilson’s Labour Government's supposed re-negotiations in 1975 any gains that David Cameron claims in terms of any re-negotiations with the EU will be make-believe, which is why two of his MPs defected to UKIP.

They simply don't believe a word that he says about his dealings with the EU or holding a fair referendum, which of course depends upon him being re-elected.
