I HAVE been interested in reading letters concerning the closure of the Presbyterian Church in Hoylake.
This church was mentioned in a book written by my great, great uncle Lewis Jones.
He was telegraph keeper on Hilbre Island for 35 years, retiring in 1923.
In his book Atgofion Ynyswr, Memories of an Islander, he says that he and his wife became members in the Presbyterian Church and were given a very warm welcome by the congregation.
There were many well known Welsh people attending the Church and it had a thriving Welsh class in the Sunday School.
Later when a Welsh Church was established in West Kirby he and other members of the Hoylake Church organised its first prayer meeting.
