WIRRAL’S ruling Labour group are crying their usual crocodile tears over swingeing job cuts in local authority services and jobs.
None of the 37 Labour councillors who voted for the latest batch of cuts will be personally affected — they will continue to pocket their expenses and perks.
These well-heeled Labour councillors have also had the gall to increase the Lottery-sized salary of the council’s chief executive, while taking the axe to pensioners’ council tax discounts and library opening hours.
Labour group member Diane Harris claims the council “have no choice” and blames the Coalition government. Ms Harris has a very short memory.
Many of these councillors, including leader Phil Davies, were rubber stamping annual cuts for the 13 years of the last Labour government (1997 to 2010).
The working class of Wirral and elsewhere do have a choice. They can stand up and fight back.
James Roberts, Wallasey.
