WHILE I am pleased that the police are clamping down on irresponsible cyclists riding on Birkenhead pavements, how about they also tighten up on those riding without lights in that town and elsewhere?

It always seems to be that those without lights, on the road or pavement, are dressed completely in black and they pay scant regard to the Highway Code.

They seem to have a death wish and tragically for them, some may well get theirwish fulfilled.

Once upon a time cyclists were regularly fined for not using their lights.

I appreciate times change and bobbies are fewer on the ground but the danger remains - and in fact has increased.
