SO councillor Phil Davies blames lack of government funding as the reason for buildings along King Street in Egremont collapsing.

What a short memory he has. Wirral Council received in excess of £33 million over three years (2009-2011) under the Housing Market Renewal Scheme (HMRI) from central government.

Cllr Davies and his colleagues made the decision to invest most of this money in Birkenhead – ignoring other areas in the borough.

At the time, as a councillor representing Liscard, I "called-in" their decision and asked them to explain why Egremont was being left out every year.

As usual, they ignored my concerns and went ahead with investing in Birkenhead. He now says that several million pounds were earmarked for the Egremont area – but that there's no money.

I've no doubt if there were funding streams they would all be flowing to Birkenhead again.

They've ignored King Street for years.
