IN response to the letter by T Hansen, who referenced my letter regarding Ukip and the BBC, I wish to clarify a few things.

Firstly, the reporting in question was since the European elections and the change in tone by the BBC since the shouting from Ukip about their "unfair treatment."

What, it seems, Ukip supporters do not understand is the difference between a "witch-hunt" and scrutiny.

"Lies" is an interesting word to use with regards to stories written about Ukip; the articles before the elections did focus on highly unsavoury comments made by many members of Ukip, who were contesting elections, all of which appear to be true.

The other parties too, over the past few years, it could be argued, have faced the same “barrage of lies” as Ukip claims to have, with various councillors being highlighted for saying very unsavoury things.

Ukip, as a (now) established party in this country, should be facing the same amount of scrutiny as the other parties and deserve to face proper scrutiny by the press.

If that comes by highlighting the various unsavoury remarks made by members of its party, or by reporting the stories that people should know, then so be it.

Conor Ritchie, Clatterbridge.
