I FEEL that something has to be done by Wirral council to resurface the A554 Leasowe Road spur.

Commuting to work I use this road every day and understand how dangerous it is - I've seen three accidents already this week, many more during the last few months, and wonder how many other vehicles have to fall down the verge or hit the crash barrier in order for the council to act.

The road has a 40mph speed limit which is unsafe do as the condition of the road is appalling.

The right hand lane isn’t safe to use due to the lanes merging into one shortly after the bend and the left lane has a large hump running parallel in the middle of the road for the whole length of the bend.

Due to the severity of the hump the tarmac has cracked along the ridge resulting in an uneven road surface on the sweeping corner.

It is not surprising to see cars are struggling to grip the road at this point and can be found either wedged on the embankment a short distance away or in the middle of the carriageway having hit the outside crash barrier.

Even at 30mph a standard car struggles to grip on the uneven road surface.

On a motorcycle, riders have to exercise extreme caution, slowing down to below 30mph and keeping to the very left hand edge of the road to avoid riding along the unstable ridge.

Riding in such a position reduces the amount that other road users travelling around the bend have to spot the motorcycle and often won’t see them until the very last minute.

This section must be resurfaced by Wirral Council using grippy tarmac to ensure the safety of Wirral motorists.

A serious accident is waiting to happen on this corner, something has to be done with urgent priority.
