I AM absolutely sick to death of the anti-dog lobby that seems to be permeating Wirral at present.

Emily Walmsley has every right to request a dog section on a beach, but personally I would prefer a "family" section – that's my right as a dog owner, I would prefer it if the families were penned in and my dog had free run of the beach!

Everyone happy? Probably not.

There are more than 11m dogs in Britain, owned by 40% of the population.

Out of those 11m, there are a few rogue owners and animals who sadly get a lot of press for all the wrong reasons.

It's quite right that more legislation is brought in.

I would like it if prospective dog owners had to be licensed by undergoing rigorous tests prior to even being able to obtain a dog.

This happens in Switzerland, and if you don’t have your personal pet licence, you never get to own a dog.

Homes are checked, background checked – it's nothing to do with money, just how responsible an owner you would make, and I'm sure there are quite a few owners in this country currently who would fall foul of that legislation.

Sadly, I don't think it will ever happen here.
