Scooters are a real menace

Wirral Globe: Scooters are a real menace Scooters are a real menace

I HAVE read many letters about cyclists on pavements, but am I the only pedestrian who has been almost ‘mown down’ more than once by primary school children on their way to school on their lethal scooters?

‘Mummy’ is usually a few hundred yards behind – sometimes shouting ‘wait at the main road’ while checking her mobile phone.

The little darlings scoot along like bats out of Hell, oblivious to others in their path.

Can I sue the parents if I get an injury?

These metal scooters are lethal!

Pavements are for pedestrians.

Make them walk, as we had to do, and teach the whole family some manners please.

Name and address supplied.

Some people need to get a life, if you honestly have nothing better to do than moan about some young children having some harmless fun, you need to find something to do.
I seriously doubt that there is any cases of a scooter actually injuring somebody, for a start, they go at a maximum speed of around 5mph, which most people can walk at, and if they werent on their scooters would probably actually be running faster. Secondly, the weight of a child on a scooter is very small, and damage caused by a collision at this speed is probably much lower than that of an adult walking quickly walking into you.

Yes, anonymous letter-writer, you must be the only one who has been nearly "mown down" by a scooter.

And rather than speak to the parent, you decide to write to your local free-sheet instead. So we can add cowardice to your hysteria.

As a parent who does the school run twice a day, with a child who uses a scooter, I have yet to see anyone come to grief because of it. I'll tell you what I do see, though, a child whose independence and awareness has improved because of this simple pleasure. And, guess what, he has FUN riding his scooter too! Heaven forfend that a child have FUN, eh?

I agree that these evil menaces are blighting society and on a par with Fred / Rose West and 9-11.

Scooter = Murder.

I for one am glad that someone has had the gumption to address this life-threatening risk to the general public. I for one have seen the aftermath of a multi-scooter pile up. Boob-boos, ouchies and scrapes everywhere! Absolute carnage! We must stamp out this dangerous and socially-unacceptabl
e trend, which is corrupting our children and obviously will lead to drug use in later life!

Seriously! It's children enjoying themselves! Get a grip.
