Confiscation of the dog would be the only punishment

RESIDENTS in Wirral are fortunate in having so many amenities on our doorsteps – beaches, long coastal areas, fine parks, rural walking areas, easy access to Wales, the Lake District etc.

This scene sadly can be ruined by the selfish minority with their dogfouling and fly-tipping..

May I suggest that the council places skips in the most affected areas on Saturdays where residents can place old furniture mattresses etc.

As regards litter dropping on the pavements, I suggest people serving community order sentences be sent out in gangs to pick the litter up – I have seen prison gangs in the USA doing just that.

As regards dog-fouling I cannot think of any way of dealing with such owners – fines seem to have no effect – confiscation of the dog would be the only punishment which would hit hard.

I like your thinking! In our area fly tipping isn';t an issue but in areas where it is, if the council ultimately has to send someone to clean it up your suggestion is worthy of consideration.

I do believe though a lot of fly tipping is probably as a result of vans having to get a (paid for) permit to use authorised recycling centres such as Bidston. Are we naïve enough to believe that anyone who loads up a van or fLatbed tipper with rubbish who is then turned away because they don't have a permit drives back home and just unloads it? My guess is one or two out of ten would, the remainder just ditching it.

Dogs, something needs doing, it seems the streets of Birkenhead and it's grassy parks are becoming huge toilets for inconsiderate dog owners...!

Seems like a good idea, at the same time why don't we confiscate the vans used by fly-tippers
