Take responsibility for child's safety on Wirral roads

First published in Letters

HAVING just had a young child pull out of a side road directly across my path (without looking in either direction), I am posting to plead with parents everywhere to take responsibility to make sure their children are safe on the roads.

Don't leave it to someone else. If anything was to happen to your child imagine how you would feel if and when you realise you could have done more to ensure their safety.

Don’t take risks ... take responsibility. If anything happens, their lack of knowledge will be down to you.

Don’t assume they know what they’re doing, because they probably don't.

Funny enough I had a similar occurrence this afternoon except it was a full grown adult and not a child. Guess what, he was on the phone.

I like to think I am an ok driver, watching the road and try to be as courteous as I can, but I still think one day I wil run someone over because the phone call is that important they would rather dice with death than look left and right.

Whilst I am ranting, can I put a call out to the Lycra clad goon who rides down Hinderton Road across the Central roundabout and heads towards Hamilton Square - mate, you are a complete and utter buffoon. You boot it down the hill without looking for other road users. You went through 2 red lights last week, cut a car up by Central station, then didn't stop once when you went across the Conway street roundabout. Your cycling proficiency is cr@p, your road awareness is crap, and the cycle helmet you wear will not stop you stupid marble filled head getting smeared across a bonnet of a car or the road. If you know who this fool is, have a word because the way he rides is inviting death!!!!
