DRIVING towards Liverpool last Friday I saw a cyclist wobbling his way up to Moreton Cross taking flamboyant drags from a cigarette he held in one hand while with the other he recklessly steered his way in and out of queuing traffic waiting to join the roundabout.

A moment later an ambulance with two-tone horns blaring and blue lights flashing approached at speed from the direction of Upton Road.

All cars immediately stopped to let the emergency vehicle through – but the cyclist decided to ignore it and swaggered onto the roundabout, still taking drags from his fag, forcing the ambulance driver to brake heavily in order to avoid having to throw the blithering idiot in the back and rush him up to hospital.

What is it about so many Wirral cyclists these days that makes them think they can ignore the rules of the road?
