ON Friday, June 6, it will be the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings – the biggest invasion the world has ever known, it cost the lives of hundreds of men.

I was one of the lucky ones that can relive the memory of that day.

I was crew member of the HMS Faulknor, flotilla leader.

I have a book about her, called Destroyer Leader.

The hardest-worked destroyer in the fleet, she was on arctic convoys, Sicily landings, all sorts of things.

I only joined the ship after all that in 1943.

I did a gunnery course in Gibraltar and joined her there.

The book I have describes all that happened during D-Day.

We picked up General Montgomery and took him to the beach head after the troops had gone inland.

There is only a handful of the Faulknor's crew left alive.

Let’s not forget the very brave men that died.
