IT comes as no surprise to me that Green Party candidate for the region Peter Cranie is welcoming the announcement that offshore wind farms at Burbo Bank will receive a Government boost that could see more turbines on our shoreline.

There are already far too many wind turbines in the region and they have scarred our beautiful landscape beyond recognition, all for a few overpriced kilowatts of unpredictable power.

Green taxes that go towards subsidising wind farms add £200 to the average fuel bill and I fear that these developments will only make matters worse, driving more households into fuel poverty.

Some jobs may indeed be created directly by the new developments, but it will be at the terrible cost of losing more manufacturing jobs in the region that rely on cheap, reliable energy that wind farms can never provide.
