I AM writing in response to two of the letters published in last week's Wirral Globe by 'AE' & 'MW', both of which were on the subject of cyclists.
It is unfortunate that AE had an unpleasant incident with a cyclist in Royden Park, of course we only have one side of the story, but it's a shame if there has been an aggressive exchange.
Cyclists and walkers do need to show respect for each other.
We all have a right to enjoy public spaces and we do it in different ways.
I walk and cycle on a regular basis and the two activities are not incompatible nor should walkers and cyclists adopt aggressive attitudes towards each other.
I do think dog-walkers do have a responsibility to keep their dogs under control and clean up after them.
As for MW referring to cycling as a throwback to Victorian times that's just ridiculous.
Perhaps s/he is referring to Top Gear's humorous take on advertising cycle awareness/safety, but if this is intended as a serious comment then it's just insulting and stupid.
Cycling is promoted as part of healthy lifestyle and is very much a part of life in the 21st Century.
