WHAT a sad individual your correspondent 'MW' is (Mailbox, April 9).

I have read the letters page of this newspaper every week for nearly 30 years and have never before felt compelled to respond, but MW’s sheer ignorance and attitude really grates.

While I can understand that certain cyclists' actions are at best unkind and at worst a danger to other road-users (as a cyclist at times I am often left shaking my head) the sweeping generalisations and pure nonsense in MW's letter are beyond belief.

I have had major health issues in the past and now commute by bicycle daily, would I perhaps be better to as MW suggests, use the bus everyday getting fatter and more unhealthy and causing yet more strain on the NHS?

In MS' funny little world everybody would travel everywhere by car or bus, no wonder our nation is struggling with an obesity 'time bomb.'
