IT HAS been more than five months since the fire authority dropped its bombshell that it intends closing Heswall and West Kirby fire stations and building a new one at Greasby.
The question on everyone’s lips in West Wirral is, where will it go?
Greasby has no suitable sites, which has led to rumours that either it will be built on the village green or an existing public building will be demolished to make way for it.
I have made enquiries with members of the fire authority and have been told they "are still looking at a number of sites but have not yet settled on any one".
When will we be told which sites are being looked at? Why the secrecy?
I assume they will decide which site they want and then consult after the decision has been made.
And can they maintain response times from any site in Greasby to areas like Hoylake and Meols, as they are linked to Greasby by roads known locally as "the lanes"?
In particular Heron Road from Three Lanes End to Meols is unsuitable for fast travel.
The fire authority and Wirral Council need to be more open and transparent and tell the people of West Wirral what is going on.
