Wirral in it together?
12:50pm Tuesday 17th December 2013 in Letters
COUNCIL leaders Davies and Burgess were on BBC Merseyside on Friday, December 6, stating Wirral has lost half its money from central government in the past few years.
This may be true, but the areas they have selected for cuts so far fly in the face of even their own statements on what would be cut.
A promise to prioritise the elderly and vulnerable has gone by the board, and now the reckless decision to halve street-lighting in the borough, to save £85,000, compounds their folly.
Surely, a similar amount could be saved if the council demonstrates that "we are all in this together" by applying some austerity, by cutting out wastage at the town hall, and speaking with the Chinese over the internet, rather than going there in person!
