Wirral residents don't want to be part of combined authority
1:58pm Tuesday 8th October 2013 in Letters
IN response to the news article Council leader's move to join combined Merseyside authority backed (Wirral Globe, September 25).
Whatever the ruling Labour council leader Cllr Phil Davies tells Wirral people of the endless economic benefits for pushing for this decision, it is in reality a purely political manoeuvre to ensure the Labour Party controls the Wirral political landscape indefinitely and is the final nail in the coffin for a democratic-elected Wirral Council by its electorate.
Wirral will be frog-marched into a Liverpool Labour dictatorship that will control all aspects and decision-making for the borough, and who will just become part of the much bigger Merseyside regional political picture for the Labour Party to enforce power.
And in essence, it makes redundant any influence Wirral’s electorate has on deciding the fate of the council composition, the decision-making on where their taxes are locally spent, and participation in the democratic process in their own area.
This is NOT democracy, but a dictatorship and many Wirral residents do not want it.
Stan Black, West Kirby.
