Why not run train on disused Wirral track?
1:51pm Tuesday 17th September 2013 in Letters
WITH the resurgence of New Brighton and all that it now offers, I am somewhat surprised that Merseyrail directors have not even considered the idea of running trains direct from West Kirby through to New Brighton and without passengers having to change at Birkenhead North all the time.
They may not be aware that, in fact, there is still an old disused track bed running from Bidston station which could easily be used for this purpose, where the old rails and cross points were ripped up once coal trains stopped going into Wallasey docks.
With a bit of foresight and planning I am sure that both West Kirby and New Brighton stations have platform capacity to take on this new service.
I welcome a constructive reply to this letter from a Merseyrail representative.
