A TEENAGER from Bury attacked with a meat cleaver during a carjacking has relived the terrifying moment he thought he was going to die.
The 19-year-old was driving a VW Polo with an 18-year-old friend in the passenger seat when they were viciously attacked by two men in Tonge Moor Road, Bolton.
The victims have spoken about their horrific ordeal on condition of anonymity.
The incident happened near the junction with Crompton Way at 11.45pm on Thursday, March 28, and police have appealed for help in tracking down the two attackers.
The driver said: “We were just driving around Bolton and going back up Tonge Moor Road when a man was just stood in the middle of the road with a beer bottle.
“As we drove past he threw it and my wing mirror came off.
“We turned around and stopped to pick the mirror up and he was about 50 yards away, screaming and swearing.
“He started running at us so I reversed away.”
When the pair thought they had escaped, they pulled over but the man had followed them. The driver said: “He had a big brick in his hand and threw it and put my back side window in, then he started hitting my car with a meat cleaver.
“I was pleading with him to put it down.
“The way he was screaming, I thought I was going to die there and then.”
He said: “I was told by some-one once that if anyone ever pulls a knife on you to wrap something around your arm, so I’d wrapped my jacket around my arm to defend myself.
“He went into the middle of the road and we got into my car and started it up to try and get away. My window was down and he came and put the cleaver up to my face, he was swearing and said “get out the car”.
“He swung it at me.
“Having the hoodie on my arm deflected it and it cut my face.
“It was a full swing. If I hadn’t had the hoodie on my arm it’d have cut my face clean open.”
As his friend went to get out of the car to help him, another man app-eared and attacked him too.
The pass-enger, who is also from Bury, said: “He came out of nowhere, he was shouting and swearing and punched me in the face several times.”
The two friends were dragged from the car which was then driven off by the man with the cleaver and was later found abandoned.
The driver was treated in hospital and said he did not sleep for five days after the incident.
His stepdad said: “He’s an upbeat person but he’s been a lot quieter since this happened.
“You always worry about them when they go out but that’s intensified tenfold. We feel relieved when we hear his car pull up outside.”
One of the attackers was dark skinned, 6ft tall, well built, aged in his late teens or early 20s and had short, light brown hair.
He wore a grey hooded top and dark coloured jeans.
