Parking charges are unfair

IS IT it me, have I missed a major story here or is Wirral Council trying to pull a fast one and out one over us with respect to parking charges here in Liscard?

I refer to the official notices published in this week’s Wirral Clobe, issued by Wirral Borough Council.

Hidden away among all the variations in no waiting zones and meter parking zones is a notice about increased parking charges throughout the authority.

Now, I may have misunderstood the notice but it looks to me as if Liscard parking charges are now to be the same as Birkenhead whereas currently they are different and significantly cheaper - 85p for two hours in Liscard against £1.65 for the same time period in Birkenhead.

The notice now groups Liscard and Birkenhead parking charges together at the Birkenhead rate, thus representing a 94% increase in charges for 2 hours in Liscard.

One hour goes from 75p to £1.05 – a 40% increase and there are other significant increases are across the range.

Apparently Birkenhead's free parking - Monday- Friday after 3pm is finishing on 31st March. This needs to be advertised so people aren't caught out. The policy needs reversing to keep up business in Birkenhead shops - this will allow the businesses to remain profitable, open and council tax paying.

Mr Smith over your statement that we the council think if fair to bring all the parking charges in line with Birkemhead. Why didnt they think of changing Birkenhead parking charges in line with the cheaper charges in the other areas fairer and bringing them down rather than another hidden increase to the ratepayers of Wirral. Amazing your way of thinking fair Mr Smith is increasing the councils income again after the way the council chose to increase in our rates was that fair as well instead of accepting the governments offer to keep the council tax the same.

I advise everyone in Bidston and St James who voted for Oxton resident Harry Smith to represent them as a councillor to think about the knock-on effects this man's strange, out of touch parking charges policies will have on Wirral business as a whole and vote him out at the next opportunity.

Is it me or is it Wirral council being greedy again? Why did they not just bring Birkenhead in line with the charges in Liscard, hoylake, westkirby etc. I have just recently been shopping in Birkenhead and it starting to look like a ghost town with all it closed shops' maybe its because of these expensive parking charges putting people off going there.
With everything else going up, gas electricity, petrol,f
ood you would think they would give the motorist a break!
