I am not a Tory

I STRENUOUSLY object to the accusation by Councillor Phil Davies in the Globe that I am part of a 'Conservative' campaign to stop the appointment of Steve Foulkes as our next mayor.

I am not a Conservative Party supporter.

In fact Globe readers will recall that I have been extremely critical of the current government's cruel extension of New Labour's mistreatment of the disabled and chronically ill, for example, through the abusive ESA Work Capability Assessment run by ATOS, and the attempt locally to deny disabled travel passes to the same vulnerable groups.

Well said professor, I too am not a Tory, I was once a Labour supporter until I realised that Tony Blair was every bit as bad as Maggie Thatcher.

What disturbs me even more is the behaviour of Wirral Borough Councilors elected representatives, who allowed, condoned, aided and abetted, the disgraceful, deceitful, cruel, and wicked treatment of some of the people who had no chance to protect or defend themselves.
And the continued shabby treatment of a number of decent human beings who tried to stop them.

Without a doubt Steve Foulkes was and still is deeply involved in that disgraceful period that brought shame to the very name of Wirral Council and should never be considered for a position such as Mayor.
He simply does not deserve it.

Unfortunately Professor Gregg you have criticized the Labour party and that means you are a Tory. I have also been critical of Labours alleged working class credentials and have also been branded a Tory. To the simple minded you are either one or the other. Name calling is a bullying tactic used by Labour to belittle and stifle debate. One day the brainwashed masses will wake up and realise that the "socialist" millionaires in red have mugged them of just as much as the "Toff" millionaires in blue.

I'm not a Tory either, and I would be ashamed to be a Wirral resident if Cllr Foulkes is elected to the position of Mayor.

Its a typical example of a tactic perfected by the New Labour government and now enthusiastically pursued by its descendants, and it goes like this: if you wish to rehabilitate someone with a dodgy past you shove him or her into the public eye by promoting them to a high profile position, then attribute all criticism to plotting, envy, political malice or spin until the clamour eventually goes away.

Cllr Davies: if Steve Foulkes become Mayor of Wirral the appointment will provoke a positive firestorm of criticism which even his most delusional ally won't be able dismiss as "Toryism."

Incidentally, Prof Gregg, you're spot on about the WCA regime; which in its current form is a direct manifestation of the contempt that the Tories hold for the sick and disabled, and a national disgrace.
