'Outrageous' that Wirral councillors unite in vote against cut in numbers

I FIND it outrageous that while preceding over the worst council cuts ever, Labour and Tory members gang up to vote against reducing the ridiculous number of councillors we have.

Maybe the thought of losing their own cushy numbers with all the perks and expenses they receive was a cut too far.

Self interest and greed is the motivating factor, its a pity they can't show the same solidarity when looking after the interests of the people of Wirral.

at council last night there was a call to cut Cllr numbers, reduce standard expenses and significantly cut special allowances - Leader of Council basicially said NO CHANCE and the Tories stayed silent.

I agree with the writer. Has the editor positioned a letter about our councillors amongst dog excrement letters for a reason I wonder?

Not sure whether the word "preceding" belongs in the letter (presiding, maybe?), but I certainly agree with the sentiments.

Hey Folks, you should all remember after the Cabinet decided on the matter almost all the rest of the Councilors fully endorsed the decision, very strange no Party Political pressure or sense of fair play came into action.

Most of those long term Councillors have presided over all the shambles of the last 20 years and the deep disgrace of the last 10 years, and guess what as long as they exist in these positions you are going to get more of the same.

Details here of how the Local Government Act was cynically used to bring us to our knees, to enrich Don Latham (a consultant) and to give councillors an up to 36% rise in their allowances. They won't give this up without a fight.

We've all seen how crestfallen they are when voted out. Well, this goes to the heart of it
