United Utilities should not fund the Wirral Egg Run

UNITED Utilities has made a very big mistake by agreeing to become new sponsors of the Wirral Egg Run.

Everybody I know had hoped that we would be spared this noisy, polluting annual rally which blocks up our Wirral roads for hours and brings normal life to a standstill.

No doubt the participant motorcyclists enjoy this event pretending that it is a charity event, whereas it is primarily a rally for their own pleasure inflicted annually on the people of Wirral.

The motorcyclists now number in the thousands and come from all over the UK to participate.

The event has grown completely out of proportion and is quite unsuited to crowded, densely populated Wirral.

Ordinary people do NOT want this event and resent United Utilities for rescuing it and spending OUR money in the process.

United Utilities has lost a great deal of customer goodwill by this action when no doubt their PR people thought the opposite would be the case.

Hopefully it is not too late for United Utilities to re-think their action and withdraw their financial support.

R Peters again....now theres a shock.

You should be happy the run has been cancelled again then?

Do you think it will make a difference? Do you think the run still wont go ahead?

You say "ordinary" people do not want this event - so that would been the thousands of bikers, volunteers and supporters who line the run are extraordinary?

I belive they are extraordinary, as they support a charity for sick childen, pay money out of their own pocket to help others, and think of others before themselves.

Times are hard, and noone has and spare cash, but the supporters who line the route are always willing to chip in what they can to help someone less fortunate.

I commned the participants of the egg run, and no matter how much you and the other "ordinary" people dislike the run, its for a good cause and long may it continue.

I read with disgust at the way R.Peters states that the motorcyclists from all over uk and some even from other countries who come along to give their support to the egg run seem to do this pretending its a charity event whereas in R.Peters own words class it as primarily a rally for their own pleasure. WELL Mr Peters this rally as you put it has donated the following to the charities

WIRRAL EGG RUN

Last year The WIRRAL EGG RUN charity helped the following causes from money you donated. Arrow park children's ward. Christine Woodland, Claire House Children's Hospice, Amy & Friends, Childrens Cancer Support, Allandale Community Youth Works, Radio Clatterbridge, Wirral Mothers' Milk Bank, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Arrow Park, Wirral Community Narrowboat Trust, Megan, & Foxfield School, These are just a small amount of causes that are we help!!!
So If you do not like the WIRRAL EGG RUN and you know its going to be on then I would take your sorry little self out to wales or tuck yourself up in bed with your hot water bottle and earplugs. WELL DONE TO ALL CONNECTED WITH THE EGG RUN LONG MAY IT CONTINUE

For goodness sake R Peters give it a rest! You have made your point abundantly clear, We can't all like the same things and you don't like the Egg Run. Sure everyone you know does not want it to run. Well I am just as sure that everyone the above posters know do want it to run.

Oh yes and I'm an ordinary person who does not go on the Egg Run and does not watch it but I do appreciate that it gives many people pleasure and raises money for charity. I truly don't see what the problem is with a yearly event that lasts a few hours that does that.

Firstly, I cannot believe the Globe has deemed to print another negative letter by this person. Secondly, I am certain, that following this week's news of the cancellation of the egg-run, that R. Peters will now be dancing around his abode with glee. One can only imagine it has the appearance of Mr. E. Scrooge's house in Dickens, Christmas Carol. I'm willing to bet their garden shed is filled with kiddies footballs that have inadvertently landed on his property, and he refuses to give back. Also, he is attempting to have the word "humbug" reinstated in the English language, as a negative description of anything intended to be kindly. Heaven forbid the day should arrive when they need some form of charitable input. You can bet your life they will be first in the queue, begging bowl in hand, DEMANDING what they see as their entitlement. Personally, I would not care who agreed to sponsor this event, as long as it happened. As I said in my initial reply on here to the first letter, bigger picture please R. Peters. I myself will still give a donation to Claire House, as I am sure most other disappointed citizens will do. As for R. Peters, I wouldn't hold my breath for anything from them. They are probably saving their money to purchase candles to illuminate their home, as they also probably have a beef with MANWEB. Once again, I echo the thoughts of the majority; SHAME R. Peters.

The mistake that United Utilities made, RP, was to give false hope to fans of and contributors to this event and thus provide you with another dead horse to flog well beyond the point where someone was tempted to sell it for burgers.

"Everybody I know hoped that we would be spared.." ....so that would be just you, and the eggbound Grinch in the mirror.

You are now officially Wirral's Most Unseemly Person, and even the spectacularly vacuous Esther McVey currently seems more worthy of our attention. Only your unlikely election as the next Pope can save you from having your morally-impoverished email cut out and pinned to the bullseyes of a thousand dartboards.

Don't cross the road in front of any motorbikes!

I think there is a massive oppertunity being missed here. The ban on this years Wirral Egg Run could easily be turned into a positive by leaving out the run and just have a "meet" at the start point a massive space for a charitable event bands food stalls etc etc lots of money for charity would be raised. But then again we would not be able to "parade" our bikes which is what its all about as Peters said {quote} " it is primarily a rally for their own pleasure "
Then again we live in Great Britain and our goodwill/fun/enjoyme
nt is quickly being strangled out of us.Is it any wonder we ride motorcycles it is our last stand of freedom and that has got to worth holding onto !
