Angered by huge Wirral council payout
11:46am Tuesday 30th October 2012 in Letters
READING your article this week "Legal boss leaves with huge payout" knowing he was probably entitled to it in his contract, as a tax-payer I felt angered that such a generous contract could be given to a public sector manager.
It seems to many, including myself, that when it comes to the money raised through taxes from hard working individuals that government and councils alike can be and so often are extremely wasteful.
Maybe if councils and councillors actually saw how hard the public worked then maybe they would feel the same about making the money work harder.
In this time of austerity it's about time we saw better value from our taxes.
After all, we are all having to make our money stretch further.
S Mckittrick,
Prenton.

Wiral has been subject to scandal after scandal but there is never any positive action to bring about honesty integrity and transparency - WHY.
Simple the corrupt are incapable and don't want the full truth to be ever known - self interest rules!!!

The present shambles is now under the so called Governance of the Labour Party and its non democratic disgrace of an all Labour Cabinet.
It has not only proved to be less than leagal, but totally secretive, underhanded, decietful, and very cruel.
Wirral Councillors could be guilty of Aiding and Abetting even Colluding with a bunch of disreputable executive and senior managers employed bt Wirral Council.
Yet these disreputable employees have been allowed to Resign, Take Early Retirement, and leave under dubious secret arrangements with pockest bulging and pensions enhanced and secured for many years into the future, all with the full blessing of the whole 66 elected Councillors.
But not a word of explanation, or even apology to the very people who trusted them with their vote.
I do hope the population remember this when the time comes to vote again.
The so called non democratic Council Cabinet, make all the decisions on behalf of the full set of 66 elected Councillors, and not one word of dissent or non aggreement by any of them has been heard by the electorate.

Less than a dozen Labour Party Members that form the Cabinet make all the decisions, mostly behind closed doors, and then these far reaching decisions are rubber stamped by the total Wirral Council, regardless of what Political Party they belong to, or for that matter what the electorate think or wish to happen.
Hands up if you think this is democratic, or even remotely good Local Governance for the population.

I see nothing changing under Graham Burgess. Any fool can exhibit steely determination in a publicity photograph; in the real world it's a lot harder.

Is it Guilt, Consience, or just plain cover up to some pretty disgraceful actions and decisions made by Senior Officials and fully agreed to by 66 elected Councillors.
When was the last time your local Councillor actually explained to you the electorate just what they are doing with your money.
Or why should you put up with sheer waste of hard earned cash.
We all deserve an explantion, not secrecy behind closed door negotiations as is happening.
