Little support for Liverpool marathon

THIS is the second year the Liverpool marathon has included running through the Wirral.

Those who ran last year were astounded at the beauty of Wirral and thought the run on the promenade quite amazing and returned with other runners this year to relive the experience.

But where was the support from local residents?

This is an observation not only from myself but also some of the runners.

The crowds last year giving support were really high. Maybe the marathon was not given the publicity it deserved this year.

Maybe next year your paper will encourage residents to get out and cheer the runners on.

The Local Residents were very probably hacked off as we couldn't get out of our own roads due to the gross stupidity of the route planners.

Better clearer diversions for motorists, Stewards that do have local road knowledge and a better route maybe.... We do have 25 miles of coastline and several county parks with far better scenery for the runners to enjoy than downtown Birkenhead!

As a local resident I found it incredulous that it was not easy... nay on impossible to get from Wallasey to Birkenhead on the morning of the run, I am sure I am not the only one.

I should, at this point out that I do support the cause, the runners and all the good work that is achieved... But why the utter chaotic traffic and road mismanagement for us locals.
