Let's unearth Wirral's Viking history

A VISIT to Meols by a full-sized replica Norse long ship next May, with  Norwegian crew, and the building of a memorial to the Wirral Viking Ingimund, means it is surely time for a proper dig to discover exactly what lies beneath the pub car park in that town.

There is, in all probability, the remains of the real thing a few feet below ground.

It would be a fitting contribution to an important event, and frankly for the visitors to be told nobody has attempted to find out what is there would be an embarrassing shame.

Frank Nance,
Wallasey.

There is such a lot of viking history on wirral. I'm convinced Thingwall was the site of the first Viking Parliament in Britain. Earlier than the Manx Tynwald.
