I WAS interested by the recent article in the Globe about Merseyside falling below the Government's target for the amount of recyclable waste collected.

This will not be helped by the appalling collection service operated here at Portland Court in New Brighton by the council.

Our recyclable waste bins have, at the time of writing this letter, not been emptied for over eight weeks.

In fact, during 2018 out of 16 scheduled collections, they have been emptied only five times.

There have been continual complaints to the council from our caretaker and individual residents, but to no avail.

The Residents' Association has written formally to the council lot for the environment, receiving just a holding reply and a full reply is awaited.

The invariable excuse is that cars parked in Wellington Road prevent the bin lorry getting access to the service drive.

It is resulting in overflowing bins, mountains of rubbish and recycling waste being put in the ordinary waste bins - at the suggestion of the council.

The residents are at the end of their tethers and are considering direct action.

This could be withholding part of the council tax or perhaps putting a roadblock across Wellington Road to prevent the recycling waste lorry leaving the road without emptying our bins.
