MY husband and I were considering walking from West Kirby to Hilbre Island on Sunday.

To be sure that we walked out at a safe time I rang the coastguard for advice.

I was told that the high tide was just after 6pm, but the coastguard could not advise me on whether it was safe to walk out today or not, or what time would be the safest time to go.

Surely advising people when they phone up for safety information would be better than leaving them to make a wrong judgement and have to be rescued when they get cut off from the incoming tide.

What is the world coming to?
