I WRITE in response to the leader of the council's claims that the Conservative Government is threatening the Green Belt in Wirral.
While he talks of the green belt being the 'jewel in the crown' of Wirral he neglects to tell people he withdrew a brownfield site in Greasby and instead, gave a way a Green Belt site in Saughall Massie for a fire station.
He also neglects to say that under his stewardship the council has spent well over £1m of council taxpayers money on his Hoylake Golf Resort folly, which if approved will allow houses to be built on Green Belt.
I would also remind him and your readers that in July last year in a special council meeting I and other members of the Conservative group requisitioned, I called on the council to confirm its commitment to protect Wirral’s Green Belt, and in particular land in council ownership.
It is a matter of public record that he, and the Labour group voted against giving that commitment.
Cllr Chris Blakeley, Moreton West and Saughall Massie
