RUNNERS, joggers and walkers are invited to take part in the second annual Run For Rhys 5K, which takes place in Croxteth next month.

Run For Rhys celebrates the life of Croxteth youngster Rhys Jones.

The 5K fun run is on Sunday, August, 26, and takes place in the grounds of Croxteth Hall and Country Park.

The event also includes a one-mile run at 11am, which is followed by the 5K at 12pm.

There is no lower age restriction to encourage families to take part.

The event provides a platform for participants to remember Rhys, and to also raise much-needed funds for the Rhys Jones Community Centre to help the community hub continue its vital work in the local community.

Rhys, aged 11, was innocently caught in the cross-fire between two rival gangs.

The youngster was shot when he was walking in Croxteth on August 22, 2007.

Last year the heart-breaking story of the Jones family was portrayed in the television drama Little Boy Blue to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the tragedy.
