I AM genuinely quite devastated that the decision has been made to relocate King Street Post Office in Wallasey to the nearby branch of McColl's in Trafalgar Road.

Not only has Egremont’s King Street lost another of its most vital establishments but, nationally, this closure signifies yet another door-slam on a traditional Royal Mail outlet.

I feel, as I did with the dreadful notion to relocate Birkenhead GPO into the town’s WH Smith, that this is a sign of total disrespect for a part of our British Heritage.

Over the past decade, I have used King Street Post Office at least twice a week and can confirm that managers Alan and Phil have invested great efforts to provide a consistently excellent service.

Unfortunately, I fail to see how such personal and high standards of consumer-assistance can be maintained on the independently designed shop floor of the new premises.

Secondly, I am truly astonished that only a mere 13 letters were received by Post Office Limited via there customer feedback questionnaire.

I really did anticipate that a greater number of people would be more passionate about such a tragic loss to the Egremont community.

And so, your chance to rescue a historical part of Egremont has passed, because nobody spoke up!

In keeping with the typical spirit of many UK residents, people say nothing when something is bordering on the verge of being taken away; yet once it’s gone, they will complain to the end of the earth.
