I WANT to draw attention to the decision by Merseytravel to cancel the 901 bus and not provide a direct replacement for Saughall Massie residents.

Until September 2017, there was a direct bus to both Moreton Cross and onward to Leasowe station.

There is now no direct bus to Leasowe station.

There is only an hourly service to Moreton alone and an hourly service to Clatterbridge in the other direction.

Merseytravel have made life far more difficult for residents who live between the top of Overchurch Road and Hoylake Road, creating a poor service for an area over one mile in length.

One of these buses serves the hospitals at an hourly frequency plays havoc with hospital appointments.

Merseytravel are making the assumption that the affected residents are a) well off and b) have a car and c) won't complain.

Such nakedly political acts should have no place in the thinking and actions of a supposedly apolitical body; but unfortunately they are alive and well.

In my own road, several houses do not have a car and this is true across the whole of the affected area.

I have written to my local Conservative councillors about this and have also written to Merseytravel.

My councillors are very sympathetic but they do not sit on the Merseytravel board and cannot change things.

They have advised me though, that the majority of local councillors who do sit on the board are Labour.

Merseytravel staff chose to send me a patronising and formulaic response that said nothing in concrete terms apart from no review being possible for at least three months.

That time has come and gone now and it is clear that this decision is not going to be reversed.

Why are the residents of Saughall Massie being penalised like this?

They pay their council tax and part of that tax is for providing local bus services and that is simply not being achieved here.

I and many others have a genuine grievance and Merseytravel should reverse this decision forthwith.

Edward Robertson, Saughall Massie
