THE House of Commons vote on the EU Withdrawal Bill was disastrous for democracy.

A rebel amendment was passed by 309 votes to 305 requiring the future UK-European Union deal to be approved by a statute passed by Parliament.

Those who supported that amendment are determined to undermine Brexit, which the majority in this country voted for in the Referendum.

These MPs are flying in the face of democracy and it is a disgrace.

There is doubtless a democratic mandate in place for Britain to leave the European Union - as well as the 17.4m who voted in the Referendum, we had a General Election result where over 84% of voters backed parties pledging Brexit and an Act of Parliament passed following a Supreme Court case.

Theresa May's negotiating position with EU has now been made harder.

The EU will see this vote as a green light to concede even less to the British side during negotiations.

We could well now end up with a no-deal scenario thanks to this betrayal of voters and the rebel Tories who sided with Labour in last week’s vote must pay the price at the ballot box.
