AS an Ambassador for Wirral who uses its history and heritage to help visitors enjoy the peninsula I was highly delighted to see the famous Birkenhead horse-drawn tram return to its rightful place within the Transport museum at Taylor Street, Birkenhead.

People with good memories will remember the tram inside the ferry terminal at Woodside.

It was there to remind people of Birkenhead's place in British and probably European history as being the first place to adopt the American George Francis Train’s first street tramway outside America.

Not seen at Woodside since 2009 it has been at Hooton Park seen by few, now it should become the Merseyside Tram Preservation Society's number one attraction, hopefully with a safe future.
