WIRRAL Council is currently seeking to progress its regeneration strategy.

A significant element of which includes the construction of a golf "resort" in Hoylake – a project first conceived more than 15 years ago.

The Wirral Society has indicated its support where it seeks to regenerate many run-down parts of the borough.

However, we are totally opposed to the construction of the resort as this would involve not only the construction of an hotel and associated buildings, but the loss of farm land in order to permit development of 160 high-value properties.

These houses would all be located in the Wirral Green Belt which currently serves to help separate the West Kirby and Hoylake townships – and which, we thought, the council was pledged to protect, despite its recent approval of a new fire station at Saughall Massie.

We have written to Cllr Davies, leader of the council, who seems to be the only person to publicly support this scheme.

We have asked him if he could provide us, and the many other objectors to this scheme, with reasons why this project should be supported.

To date no response has been received. We now hear the council is pursuing the "Hoylake Bypass," a new road into the golf resort area from Saughall Massie Road.

From documents the council has had to release we understand the developer will not be funding this road, but the council may have to.

Another massive potential cost to the taxpayer!
