I WOULD like to respond to Mr Griffith's letter regarding Jeremy Corbyn (Mailbox, June 14).

I am frequently dismayed and confounded by the way in which some people cannot seem able to distinguish between the 'support of terrorism' and importance of being able to understand the issues behind political experiences that can lead to terrorism (such as in the Palestinian groups and the IRA) and maintaining a level of communication with them, in order to ultimately facilitate a peaceful solution.

This approach does not, in any way, come close to condoning violence, but is a sensible, ethical and informed way of trying to bring an end to it.

It is my view that not only does the Tory Party, in practice, pretty much disregard those most in need in our society but that, under Margaret Thatcher's governance, it did irreparable harm to our society’s civilisation in the manner in which it actively encouraged a dog-eat-dog, every man for himself ethos which still prevails in the party and to which Corbyn’s political aims are a wonderful antidote.

J Calderbank, Moreton.
