I HOPE your correspondent Glynn D Parry (Letters, May 12, Wirral Globe) will withdraw his sleight on new Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram, regarding the lack of a tie at the "signing-in ceremony" for the post at Wallasey Town Hall.
Mr Parry suggested it was an "indication of the slovenly way in which Liverpool is to rule Wirral".
Mr Rotheram will have worn a tie every day he attended Parliament for seven years as an MP.
In addition, in the same issue as Mr Parry's letter, there is a photograph of Mr Rotheram wearing an impeccable suit and tie alongside Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, taken when they met to discuss serious issues facing us in the North West.
There are times when even politicians will perhaps not always dress formally.
In the Globe (May 24) there is a photograph of Cllr Ian Lewis, the new Conservative leader at Wirral Council, in a suit but not wearing a tie - alongside Labour's Phil Davies, who is.
This may be a library photograph of course, but I hope Mr Parry accepts that Mr Rotheram was neither behaving in a slovenly way, nor setting a precedent for the men of Wirral to follow!
Tony Murphy, Hoylake
