CONGRATULATIONS to Caldy RFC First XV, whose storming second-half performance reversed a 17-point deficit to achieve the double over second placed Cheshire rivals Sale FC, securing the championship of National League Two North with two games still to play and automatic promotion to National League One, the third tier of English Rugby Union.

A large crowd, enjoying the beautiful sun-drenched setting at Paton Field, witnessed an enthralling display of rugby skills in perfect conditions from two quality sides and at the final whistle produced a roar that could be heard over a mile away in West Kirby.

The Caldy squad, coaches and management, including many home-grown and local players, are enjoying a record-breaking season and deserve recognition as Wirral's leading sports team, with even greater support from the touchline as they progress to the next level.

Cllr Geoffrey Watt, West Kirby & Thurstaston ward.
