AS a regular cyclist and walker on Egremont Promenade there is unfortunately a problem with a minority of cyclists cycling furiously at top speed, heads down along this stretch.

This behaviour gives cyclists a bad name as the vast majority are cycling for leisure.

Recently I was passed by a cyclist who seemed to be 'on a mission' to set a world record on the promenade.

Swearing loudly as he shot past us it was rather intimidating behaviour to say the least and if there had been children or animals nearby he could easily have ploughed into them.

Last weekend, one cyclist going past the 'pirate boat' was actually shouted at by adults to 'slow down' or words to that effect.

Having been cycling down south recently in Bournemouth and Brighton on their promenade cycle tracks they have speed limits of about 10mph which are enforced by the local authorities.

Would it not be a good idea to impose a similar speed limit on the excellent cycle paths etc, in Wirral for everyone's safety?

As a guideline Cycling Britain recommends anyone doing 18mph should use the road and not the cycling paths.
