THE stench of arrogance and nepotism again blows strongly from the cesspit that is Wallasey Town Hall.

The appointment of Martin Liptrot, an acolyte of the council leader, to the manufactured position of "investment development manager" is an utter disgrace.

The post was fast-tracked through council thereby giving opposition members no opportunity to debate the matter.

He now benefits from a salary of £350-a-day, as reported in your newspaper.

His first arduous task will be to attend a conference in the South of France next month no doubt accompanied by a number of senior councillors.

The council claim that the post will be funded for only four months when it will be reviewed.

I would hazard a considerable sum that when this period elapses, he will be found to have been such an "outstanding success" that the position will be made permanent.

Meanwhile the Labour-controlled council continue to bleat about government cuts, although money can be found to not only fund this position but to lay out funds on the Hoylake golf project before a blade of grass has yet been disturbed.

I wonder if the four local Members of Parliament will be as vocal in expressing their unease with the latest council shenanigans as they were over the proposed parking charges?
