INTERESTING that, in the publicity generated by Merseyrail to inform passengers about the disruption for six months on the Wirral line from January 2017, they failed to mention a number of key points which will add to the disruption.

The weekday service on the New Brighton / West Kirby lines is being reduced to a Sunday service instead of the regular 15-minute frequency.

Therefore not only will the journeys be disrupted by only travelling to Birkenhead North or James Street, there will be a lower frequency travelling there and back.

No logical reason has been given for this.

Instead of providing a rail replacement bus service for passengers needing Central or Lime Street they have suggested passengers, after already enduring the reduced service, wait on James Street for a scheduled bus service – the 10A – which actually doesn't even go close to either station.

They state in their publicity that passengers should avoid using cars and instead use public transport, but their alternative plans, which have apparently taken months to devise, look like providing nothing but a stressful and lengthy journey for passengers to and from work.

In addition to the above issues and disruption, those passengers who are considering using either the train or bus are going to be hit with a price increase on their journey from Merseytravel from the start of January when the works commence.

Maybe they think everybody has the option of working from home or has an understanding boss who doesn't mind staff being constantly late – but it will certainly lead to major issues with employers.
