WHAT has gone wrong? We all know that there are more cars on the roads - it's a necessary evil. People have to work. People have to travel to get to work. And in the main they have to travel by road.

Forget the social stuff - the majority of us have to get to work, we have to use the roads. Why is Wirral Council trying (and succeeding) to prevent this?

All of the major arterial road routes are being disrupted to the extent that traffic is regularly brought to a standstill at all times of the day in Wallasey by ill-conceived and unnecessary road calming' measures. Has our council declared war on the motorist?

The so-called traffic calming policies have done nothing to improve road safety and have only succeeded in causing mayhem. I can only hope that this has been recognised and that the council will implement more sensible policies to correct the now obvious mistakes to rectify the untenable situation that prevails.

It cannot be right that the road-using ratepayers who also pay vehicle licence tax to use our roads are prevented from doing so. Surely those responsible for the administration of our road network have a responsibility to ensure that traffic should move freely and not be brought to a standstill?

Are the council employing professionals with proven experience of road traffic management or using amateurs who play with our thoroughfares to the detriment of the community? This is certainly how it appears. Surely the aim should be to widen roads rather than to narrow them?

The council needs to recognise this and take corrective action before it is too late.
