NEARLY 20 Wirral AC members represented Merseyside in the Inter Counties Cross Country Championships in Wollaton Park, Nottingham.

Tom Madden collected a well deserved bronze medal as the fourth counter in the Under-20 team which finished third behind Greater Manchester and Yorkshire.

The foundation for this success was an outstanding individual win by team-mate David Forrester (St Helens Sutton AC), who seized the initiative early in the race and never looked in danger of being caught.

Wirral AC provided the first counter for Merseyside in five of the races on the programme.

Pick of the bunch was Nick Jones, 28th in the Under-13 event. Stephen Simpson (Under-15), Andrew Gawne (Under-17) and Nicole Haviland (Under-17) all made the first 100, while Charlotte O'Connell, in her first outing in the Senior Women's race, finished 156th.
